Established in 1849, the University of Indonesia is the oldest state-run university in Indonesia with campuses in Depok, West Java and Jakarta. The main campus in Depok now houses the majority of faculties, including mathematics and natural sciences, humanities, economics and many more.

In 2007, the university underwent substantial reform and now boasts one of the largest libraries in Southeast Asia, accommodating more than 20,000 visitors per day and holding approximately 1.5 million books. The library, which was designed with sustainability in mind, powers itself with solar energy, and in 2008, the university won the Indonesia ICT award for the smart campus with best content and application.
